Surgical Options Explained

Although we would LOVE to be able to do everything on each patient, we understand the added cost would prohibit some from being able to afford any surgical procedure. Below is the basic (included) & optional, but recommended procedures.

The base price of surgery includes the following:

          Hospitalization
          Anesthesia – pre-anesthetic medication/gas inhalant
Electronic patient monitoring of blood pressure, oxygen blood                                content, breathing rate, & ECG (as appropriate)
Pain medication in the hospital & to go home
          Minimal baseline laboratory which includes:
Packed cell volume (PCV) to check for anemia & inflammation
Azo stick color pad to check for increased kidney waste                                         enzymes
Total protein equals antibodies + other blood proteins to check                               for inflammation & other protein losing diseases
Electrolytes sodium (Na+), potassium (K+), chloride (Cl-)

More extensive lab includes:
Complete blood count (CBC) to check white & red blood cell lines,                       including platelets which are important in clotting blood
          Kidney profile
          Liver profile
          Clotting tests
          Blood sugar
          Electrolytes

It is STRONGLY recommended to place an intravenous catheter be placed. This allows:
Immediate access to blood circulation for any treatment of heart rate,                      blood pressure changes, or any other medications needed
Protects against decreasing blood pressure common from the                                  anesthetics
Protects the kidneys for circulation decreases that frequently occur                         during anesthesia due to decreased blood pressure
Replaces lost blood volume lost from the surgery
Helps the patient recover more quickly
